Private label charcoal: what to prepare before you start

By Aero Charcoal · Last updated

Short answer: For a private-label charcoal order, prepare a written product brief, your artwork and brand guidelines, and the label content your destination market requires. Artwork, materials and dimensions are approved in writing before production.

Private label means the charcoal is made by the manufacturer and packed under your brand. The product is only half of it. Most delays in a first private-label order come from packaging and label details, not from the charcoal itself.

Start with a written brief

Include the application (shisha or barbecue), the grade or target specification, cube size or briquette shape, pack size, estimated volume and the destination country. A clear brief lets the factory recommend the right grade instead of guessing.

Prepare your artwork

You can supply finished artwork, or the factory can adapt your brand guidelines. Either way you will need:

  • Your logo files in vector format.
  • Brand colours and fonts.
  • The languages required on pack.
  • The dieline for the pack, which the manufacturer shares so artwork fits the real dimensions.

Know what your market requires on the label

Labelling rules differ by country. Typical items to check include:

  • Product name and type.
  • Net weight.
  • Country of origin.
  • Importer or distributor details.
  • Batch or production code.
  • Safety and handling warnings.
  • A barcode, if you sell through retail.

Check the rules for your destination market before the artwork is final. Fixing a label after printing is expensive.

Approve before production

A sound process has a few fixed approval points:

  1. You approve the product through a reference sample.
  2. You approve the artwork, materials and dimensions in writing.
  3. Production and packing follow the approved reference sample and the agreed inspection points.

Ask about pack formats

Pack sizes depend on the grade. For Aero Charcoal, shisha grades come in 500 g or 1 kg inners packed in 10 kg master cartons, and barbecue grades in 3, 5, 10 or 20 kg packs depending on the grade. See the full table on the private label page.

To start, send your brief and we will confirm the grade, pack options and next steps.
